International Networking for Young Scientists (INYS) 2007
Hong Kong

24-26 January

The INYS 2007, co-organised with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was held successfully here in Hong Kong between 24-26 January. This short conference aims to bring young UK and HK scientists together to facilitate the exchange of ideas and expertise on sustainability in the built environment.

A group of 5 leading UK researchers from various institutions namely The University of Dundee, Leeds Metropolitan University, The University of Reading, and together with 8 local researchers from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The City University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University have presented their latest research findings to over 70 PhD, MPhil researchers, practitioners, real estate developers and government officials at the workshop on 24 January. Active and interesting discussion was generated as a result of the presentations.

The UK researchers then went on a technical visit to Urban Renewal Authority, One Peking and Hong Kong Wetland Park, to share knowledge of the development of sustainable urban design in Hong Kong.

The programme was finished off by a concluding discussion between the UK researchers and local academics to discuss opportunities for future collaborations. They have also worked closely together with all participants to produce a conference booklet, covering issues discussed in the conference, a summary chapter and concluding remarks.

To further facilitate the links and foster their collaboration works, the British Council has also supported two local researchers from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to visit their UK counterpart and invited them to participate in the global climate change conference in the UK between 25-31 March 2007.
